Alex Watson, MSc, FIBMS, MMRS, Life Sciences Consultant
Alex graduated from Strathclyde University with a Masters in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and is a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. The first 16 years of his career were spent both as Clinical and Research Scientist. He subsequently moved into industry and over the ensuing 10 years held commercial positions for a number of Life Science companies including Invitrogen and GlaxoSmithKline in the position of International Marketing Planning Manager.
In 1990, he founded a Strategic Planning Consultancy, which provided services for over 80 companies across all Life Science sectors, professional Institutes and government units. Since 1998 he has supported the strategic development of a number of Biotechnology University spin-out companies in positions which have included Chief Executive, Chief Operations Officer, Business Development Director and Non-Executive Director.
Outside of work, his time is absorbed with his interests in Astrobiology, Genealogy, playing Golf (badly) and piano (hopefully - some would say – not quite so badly).
Stuart Cranmer, Life Sciences Consultant
Stuart has over 40 years' experience in the life sciences area. After initially training in clinical biochemistry, Stuart left his Laboratory Manager role to take up commercial positions in industry. He has been Managing Director of Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur and DiaSorin in the UK, with senior international roles for Wellcome Diagnostics, Bio-Rad Laboratories and Hypoguard in the UK and to Chief Executive level with Enzolve Technologies in Ireland as well as driving the sales and marketing efforts of Biotrin International, Allergy Standards and Trinity Biotech.
Stuart is presently registered on the panel of Mentors for the Institute of Directors and Enterprise Ireland. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management and Member of the Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Directors, UK.
Dave Russell-Graham, BSc, Life Sciences Consultant
Dave has over 30 years’ pharmaceutical development experience having joined Glaxo directly from school. There, he attained a chemistry degree through part time study. Following career progression with GSK, he moved to Pfizer as an aerosol scientist, at a time when Pfizer began to invest heavily in respiratory product development. Dave became a key player in the development of the relationship between Pfizer and Mylan for the respiratory technology platform. This resulted in his appointment at Mylan as Commercial Manufacturing Liaison, coinciding with the respiratory group’s commencement of operations in Sandwich and Dublin.
During his career, Dave has been exposed to a number of international markets including USA, France, Ireland and China. He subsequently launched a Project Management Consultancy which now serves a diverse range of clients focused on such activities as novel pharmaceutical processing technologies, laboratory refurbishment and fit out.
Dave is an Ambassador for the BioGateway, Kent’s Life Science Network and Scientific Development Advisor for Harlow Science Park. Despite living in the far south of England he is an avid follower of Carlisle United and a long standing member of the London Branch of their Supporters’ Club.
Martin Smickler, FIRP, Director
With over 15 years experience within the Recruitment Industry, 12 years of which were spent successfully placing candidates in the NHS and Private Health Organisations, Martin has a complete understanding of the recruitment process combined with a natural ability to source the right personnel. Martin's keen insight into the marketplace identified a real need to provide a superior recruitment service to the Life Sciences sector and through his close friendship with Alex, they collaborated to establish Scintillant.
Martin’s prime focus is providing Scintillant's clients with high calibre candidates that will not only create the right fit in their organisation but further enhance the output of their teams. Martin will consider the wider business context and gain an understanding of the goals and aspirations of an organisation as well as the market itself so that the correct match can be achieved each time.
Liane Dell, Life Sciences Business Development Manager
Liane Graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in Economics. She began her career in recruitment with a major London Consultancy and was quick to earn the title of “Best Newcomer in the London Area”, achieving the highest revenues in her first year. Most months, she could be found at the top of the national sales league tables. Liane’s primary focus in Scintillant is the establishment of new business contacts and the sourcing of high quality candidates compatible to the specifications and key deliverables of new scientific posts.
Her passions outside of Scintillant include Badminton, interior design and horse riding.
